Conscious Evolution is a huge leap from relying on evolution happening by itself, to jumping in with both feet as an active participant-- because we know that our internal evolution as a species can only be done purposefully.
There is a difference between the evolution of consciousness and the evolution of society. Society is going to evolve by itself one way or another. Economics will evolve one way or another. Civil rights and freedom are going to evolve.
In fact, I am starting to think that the telling point, the litmus test to know if we are pursuing linear evolution or conscious evolution is the ability to envision the end point.
The civil rights movement is a perfect example. Now please don't get me wrong, civil rights is absolutely needed and necessary for our moral development and even our survival as a species. But an end point can be visioned. Those of us who are pushing for equality and freedom for all can envision a time when all races will treat each other with respect. The end point gives us something worthwhile to work and strive for. It is also a test to let us see if we are getting nearer or further from our goal.
When we think about the huge leap in consciousenss that would occur if every human being were fully awake and living each moment of their life to it's full potential... and constantly pushing for an enlightened collective future... we can't envision it.
We are not talking about a utopian society here. A collective enlightenment would not require a utopia! In fact, challenges and difficulties are almost a requirement for a collective enlightenment to occur and maintain. There is no end point. There are no pictures that we could glue to our vision boards to picture it. There are no legal structures that we could imagine to rule it. There are no feelings that we can try to hold onto about it.
The specifics are, by very definition, unknown. Happiness might not be a thing that our great great great grandchildren value. Love might have a totally new meaning in a thousand years. Wealth will certainly be a completely different thing. We have no idea how people will own things, or if they will even have individual ownership.
To open ourselves to this totally new future, we have to drop all our pictures of what it might be, and work on reaching our own most challenging purpose right now. The perspective of conscious evolution is like a spice that can be sprinkled on everything we do. If our passion is civil rights, then we claim our own conscious purposefullness in creating it. If our passion is love and money, then we become the most conscious we can be about it, AND use that passion to sprinkle the spice of consciousness into our lovers and family. If we need wealth and money to fulfill our purpose, then we expand our full perspective of consciousness to every aspect of creating that for ourselves and others.
