Overview Introduction and Summary

This one day overview is set up to give participants one glimpse into the perspective and  power in the teaching of Evolutionary Enlightenment.  The movement from the ego, to the Ground of Being, to the Authentic Self is the fundamental transformation that takes place in Evolutionary Enlightenment (EE).   This overview stresses the collective nature of that movement, and its evolutionary implications in creating an enlightened culture. 

This overview opens with a video on Evolutionary Enlightenment.  Being and becoming, ego and Authentic Self are introduced.  Being will be explained as ‘before the beginning', (Ground of Being) and becoming as ‘the last 14 billion years'.   EE includes being and becoming as the whole of reality, but emphasizes the becoming aspect.

The forces of the ego and the Authentic Self are two distinct perspectives, two distinct parts of the individual.  The next slide illustrates how those perspectives develop over time.  Both of these forces manifest in the individual and in the collective, values develop individually and culturally.  Participants will see where we are in this developmental scheme.  The next video addresses the collective nature of the ego.  It emphasizes that the evolution of consciousness is the evolution of our shared values, our culture.   Old value spheres need to be deconstructed in order to create a new culture. This deconstruction happens when we begin to see through our cultural conditioning.  In the following break participants will have the opportunity to begin that process.

After looking into their conditioned responses to life, the video, Escaping from Ego, follows.  The transition from ego to the Ground of Being is introduced followed by a short guided meditation.  The purpose of meditation in this teaching will be explained as a way to help you assume a position of detached objectivity in relationship to your own mind so you can become aware of the individual and collective ego and function in the world as the Authentic Self.

The next video, Becoming he Authentic Self, shows the participants the goal of this teaching.  The difference between the ego and the Authentic Self will be emphasized during the following lunch break. The directed dialog will help define these as two opposing forces in our own experience.

After lunch and dialog the Authentic Self video will confirm that this force only manifests in action creating an intersubjective field.  The following video on the Choosing Faculty explains that the choice is always ours and we determine which perspective we will act out of.   When individuals come together, each continuously choosing the perspective of the Authentic Self, a new way of relating beyond ego emerges.  This has evolutionary significance because a new shared value sphere or culture is created.  

The last video, The One as the Many, sums up the day and solidifies the perspective of the collective explaining that evolving consciousness and changing culture entirely depends on us.

Class Objectives

  1. Students will begin to recognize the perspective and values of the Authentic Self in their own experience.
  2. Students will recognize ego as unenlightened values that they act through unconsciously .
  3. Students will understand that the Authentic Self is the evolutionary impulse which manifests in the individual to become more conscious and in the collective to establish an enlightened culture.
  4. Students will understand the collective ego as unexamined values, begin to deconstruct those values  and experience the Authentic Self as a new value sphere.
  5. Students will recognize the significance of the choosing faculty and the role that it plays in consciously creating a new culture beyond ego. 
  6. Students will recognize the evolutionary significance of discovering the Authentic Self and the possibility of creating a new culture.
